  How it works

From form to live LEI in three steps

Clean first-pass data is what makes same-day issuance possible.
  1. Tell us who you are (≈5 minutes). Legal name, Companies House number, registered address, and your ownership structure (or the applicable exception). For trusts and pension schemes we’ll ask for the trust deed details instead.
  2. We validate and submit. We check every detail against Companies House before submission, then file with our accredited LOU, WM Gruppe. Clean first-pass data is what makes same-day possible.
  3. Your LEI goes live – and stays live. The LOU issues your LEI and it publishes in the official GLEIF index, typically within 1-2 hours of validation. From then on, annual renewal runs automatically under your subscription. You’ll never file a renewal form again.
  Who needs LEI

Who needs an LEI in the UK?

Any legal entity – not individuals – that touches regulated financial activity. In practice, these seven groups cover almost everyone who lands on this page
 – Broker
Your broker or platform has asked for one
UK investment platforms cannot execute trades for a company, trust or charity account without a current LEI on file – it's a hard requirement under UK MiFIR transaction reporting, not platform policy. If Hargreaves Lansdown, interactive investor, AJ Bell or your bank's dealing desk has asked for an LEI, this is why.
 – derivatives
You hedge with FX forwards, swaps or options
Under UK EMIR, every counterparty in a reportable derivative is identified by its LEI. If your business hedges currency or interest-rate risk – even occasionally – your bank needs your current LEI to report the trade.
 – trust
Trusts, pension schemes and charities
Trusts that hold investment accounts, SSAS and other occupational pension scheme trustees, and incorporated charities all need LEIs the moment they trade securities. Trusts aren't on Companies House, so validation runs on the trust deed and scheme documentation instead – we handle that as part of registration, same flat subscription, same auto-renewal.
 – eu-uk
You trade with or through the EU
UK entities trading via EU venues or with EU counterparties fall under EU MiFIR/EMIR reporting on the other side of the trade. One LEI covers both regimes – the code is global; it's the validity that both sides check.
 – payments
You're in high-value GBP payment flows
Since 1 May 2025 the Bank of England requires LEIs in CHAPS payments between financial institutions, extending across all initiation channels from November 2027 – and the Bank has stated its aim to widen LEI use to all CHAPS payments over time. If you're an FI in these flows, LEI validity is now payments infrastructure, not just reporting hygiene.
 – fca-reform
You report to the FCA and the rules are changing
The FCA is rewriting the UK transaction reporting regime (CP25/32, consulted early 2026; final rules expected in the second half of 2026 with an ~18-month implementation window). The fields change – the LEI requirement doesn't. Firms preparing their reporting stack now are registering and consolidating LEIs first.
 – funds
Funds, SPVs and asset managers
Fund structures, sub-funds and SPVs each need their own LEI for FCA filings and counterparty onboarding. Managing many entities? Ask us about consolidated invoicing and bulk transfer-in.

  The rules behind LEI

The UK rules that make a current LEI non-negotiable

"Registered once" isn't compliance – current is. These are the four regimes UK entities actually meet:

UK MiFIR – “no LEI, no trade.”

Since 2018, investment firms cannot execute a transaction for a legal-entity client without a current LEI to report under UK MiFIR Article 26. The FCA supervises this actively – a lapsed LEI means blocked orders and failed reports, usually discovered at the worst possible moment.

UK EMIR — derivatives reporting.

Every counterparty in a reportable derivative is identified by LEI. Since the UK EMIR Refit reporting standards went live on 30 September 2024, data quality expectations – including LEI validity – have tightened further.

Bank of England – LEIs in CHAPS payments.

Mandatory for payments between financial institutions since 1 May 2025; expanding across all initiation channels from November 2027; with the Bank’s stated vision of LEIs in all CHAPS payments over time. The LEI is moving from capital markets into the payments layer itself.

FCA transaction reporting reform – the 2026 rewrite.

CP25/32 proposes the biggest overhaul of UK transaction reporting since 2018. Final rules are expected in the second half of 2026, followed by an implementation window of around 18 months. Reporting fields will change; the need for a valid LEI will not.

Customer Success
That inspires Our Journey

As a fintech startup founder, I don't have time to navigate clunky compliance portals. We needed an active LEI code urgently to finalize a funding round and open our corporate brokerage account. LEI Comply's automated system pulled our business register data instantly. The whole setup took two minutes, and we had our official LEI code issued the very same day. It was fast, there were zero hidden fees, and the process was completely frictionless.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We previously used a global provider, but their opaque pricing and complicated renewal process almost resulted in a lapsed LEI, which would have frozen our cross-border trades. Transferring our existing LEI to LEI Comply was incredibly easy and completely free. Their subscription based service offers the best solution we've found, and their proactive auto-renewal system means my finance team never has to worry about missing a regulatory deadline again.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
For a publicly traded company, maintaining a "Current" LEI status is absolutely non-negotiable for ESMA reporting and the upcoming DORA regulations. We needed an official registration partner with the compliance expertise, not just a middleman. LEI Comply delivers a premium level of service. Their direct registry data synchronization ensures our corporate identity is always up-to-date, guaranteeing our uninterrupted access to global financial markets and continuous compliance. Radically transparent and highly professional.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In the world of international consulting, trust is everything. As a micro-company holder, I found that many larger European partners and banks were hesitant to engage until I could provide an official LEI code. LEI Comply made the registration process effortless. Now, my LEI acts as a "digital passport" that proves my company’s legitimacy to every counterparty I work with. It’s the best investment I’ve made to ensure my business is taken seriously on the global stage.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Managing a fleet and a complex logistics network across Europe involves constant regulatory oversight. LEI codes used to be a recurring administrative headache for our legal department. Switching to LEI Comply was a game-changer. By outsourcing our LEI matters to their automated platform, we gained complete peace of mind. We no longer worry about document deadlines or changing ESMA requirements. LEI Comply handles it all in the background. It has freed up my team to focus on our core legal operations while staying 100% compliant with a peace of mind.

UK LEI questions, answered straight

With LEI Comply, from £2.90/month on the 5-year plan (£174.00 total) up to £4.90/month billed six-monthly – registration, automatic annual renewal and support all included. There are no separate renewal fees, ever.

No UK VAT is added at checkout – the prices you see are what you pay. LEI Comply is an EU-based provider, so for UK businesses the supply sits outside the scope of UK VAT at the point of sale; if your business is VAT-registered, your accountant may account for it under the standard reverse-charge treatment.

Complete applications submitted before 3:00 pm UK time are issued the same business day; the GLEIF validation step itself takes about 1-2 hours. We operate 7 days a week.

If the account is in the name of a company, LLP, trust, charity or pension scheme – yes, your platform cannot execute without a current LEI. If you trade personally as an individual, no: individuals are identified by national identifiers instead.

Yes. Trusts and pension schemes aren’t registered at Companies House, so validation runs on the trust deed and scheme documentation instead – we handle that as part of registration.

No. Your Companies House number identifies you in the UK register; the LEI identifies you globally in the GLEIF index, and it’s the one financial regulations require. You need the first to get the second – we validate your LEI application against Companies House.

Yes – transfers are free, take 1-2 business days, and your LEI number never changes. Renewal then runs automatically under your plan.

It’s publicly flagged Lapsed in the GLEIF index; brokers block trades and UK MiFIR reporting fails until it’s renewed. We fix lapsed LEIs as a combined transfer + renewal – and our auto-renewal means it won’t happen again.

Check us in the official GLEIF index: LEI Comply is a listed Registration Agent working with the accredited LOU WM Gruppe, and our own LEI is “529900EUCQM9ZZJAYA93”. Any real provider can pass this test – always run it before paying anyone.
